Altrusa Mini-Grant Program

Transforming Ideas  into Realities

Altrusa International of Brookings South Dakota invites all Brookings County South Dakota public and private school teachers in grades K-12 to participate in its 2009-2010 Mini-Grants Program.  Designed to encourage creativity in teaching and to foster cooperation between the private and public sectors of the Brookings community, this program provides grants - up to $200.00 per proposal - for innovative teaching projects that would not be possible without additional, non-school funding.  We have reduced our awards to a maximum of $500.00 in grant funds to approved proposals for 2009-2010.  Reviewed anonymously by a panel, grant applications are evaluated by the following standards:  creativity, benefit to students, degree of student involvement, efficient use of funds and adaptability of project for use by other teachers.

Mini-Grants applications must be received by  April 1, 2010.  Additional information is available from:

RE:                   Mini-Grants Application Process for 2008-2009

Thank you for your interest in the Mini-Grants Program.  This Altrusa program provides funding for creative teaching projects.  To apply for a Mini-Grant, complete the online application form by April 1, 2010.

Applications will be reviewed anonymously by a committee.  To ensure anonymity, please do not refer anywhere on your application to particular school personnel or identifying mascots.  The panel will consider five factors in evaluating the applications:  creativity, benefit to students, degree of student involvement, efficient use of funds and adaptability of project for use by other teachers.  Grants will be awarded in any amount up to $200.00.  Grant recipients will be notified of their award by May 13, 2010.

Winning projects should be completed by May of the following year.  Each winner must submit an itemized financial report and final evaluation of his or her project within two weeks of completion or by May of the following year, whichever comes first.  If your project cannot be completed in this time frame, please indicate this on the application form.

No attachments will be reviewed.  Make your proposal clear and concise; indicate why there is a special need for the project and how it relates to other classroom studies.  The following checklist may help you in preparing your application:

Þ        Has the principal approved the project?

Þ        Is the proposal description clear and thorough?

Þ        Have you included a project schedule and completion date?

Þ        Is the project cost reasonable?

Þ        Have you kept one copy for your own records?

After considering all applications, the Mini-Grants Review Committee will either approve or refuse the grant application.  Any application which is not funded for the current year may be resubmitted in a later grant period.  All winning proposals are the property of Altrusa International, Inc. of Brookings SD.
