Applying for an Altrusa Mini-Grant for Teachers
All Brookings County, SD public and private school teachers in grades K-12 are invited to participate in the Mini-Grants Program.  It is designed to encourage creativity in teachers and to foster cooperation between the private and public sectors of the Brookings community.  This program awards grants -- up to $200 per proposal -- for innovative teaching projects that would not be possible without additional, non-school funding.  We usually award a maximum of $1200 in grant funds to approved proposals.

See Forms web page for a copy of the application or go to the Mini-Grants Online Application webpage to enter all information online.  Applications due by COB April 1 for distribution in May.  Contact the Mingrants Committee Chair for more information.

Applying for an Altrusa Service Grant:
As a Service Organization, Altrusa undertakes hands-on service projects and also gives financial donations to Brookings County South Dakota projects that will affect a large audience.  Our Service Committee reviews the projects for applicability to our mission of literacy and community service.  The members vote on the service projects that will be supported by the organization as a whole.

If you know of a project that Altrusa might be interested in supporting, fill out a Grant Application (Forms web page) and send to the Service Committee:  Altrusa Service Committee, PO Box 8442, Brookings, SD 57006 or apply online (Service Online Application).  The Grant Application should be completed for requests for money or hands-on help.

If the request is for hands-on help, please include an estimate of the amount of assistance that is needed to complete the project.  For instance, Altrusa members have decorated a new Advance home; painted the kitchen at the Domestic Abuse shelter; painted, stripped the woodwork, and decorated the bedrooms at the Domestic Abuse shelter, worked on Habitat for Humanity homes, etc.

Tentative Schedule:
  • Our fiscal year is June-May.
  • Requests for financial assistance should be submitted as early as possible in the fiscal year.
  • The Service Committee reviews Grant Applications the 4th Tuesday of the month.
  • The Committee recommendations are presented to the Board of Directors at their meeting on the 1st Tuesday of the month.
  • The members vote on the projects the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
  • If you miss a deadline, action on the project may be delayed another month.
